Qualifications of Applicants for the Social Work Licensure Exam

You must meet the following requirements:
	Must be at least 19 years of age
	Must be a United States citizen or, if not a citizen of the United States, a person who is legally present in the United States with appropriate documentation from the federal government
	Must ascribe to a professional code of ethics developed and adopted by the board. (Administrative Code 850-X-9 Standards of Professional Conduct & Ethics)
	Must meet the following additional requirements for the level at which you are applying to be licensed: Bachelor Social Worker: Has a baccalaureate degree in social work from a college or university approved, accredited, or in candidacy granted by the Council on Social Work Education Master Social Worker: Has a Master of Social Work or a Doctor of Social Work from a college or university approved, accredited, or in candidacy granted by the Council on Social Work Education. Independent Clinical Social Worker: Has a Master of Social Work or a Doctor of Social Work from a college or university approved, accredited, or in candidacy granted by the Council on Social Work Education. Has had at least two years of post-master or doctorate experience legally practicing social work under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker. Has a current active license at the Master level if applying as a candidate for the examination.
	Before licensure can be granted in Alabama passage of the Association of Social Work Boards Examination for the level in which applying is required.
	AL Code 31-13-7 requires all state agencies to document legal citizenship or presence in the US and needs for every person that applies; to print and submit the citizenship page with the required documentation. Click here to complete the Citizenship Requirements form online.

If this is your first application OR it has been more than five years since your last application, you will need to request your transcript be sent to the Board at info.socialwork@swb.alabama.gov AND you will need to complete the immigration form and upload proof of citizenship before continuing this application.
